Trevor Spitta Is Crafting His Own World; And It’s Unmistakable

Lately we’ve been hearing the term “underground rapper” over and over... the same BandLab presets, YouTube type beats, and overused lyrics. Although I've enjoyed some of the music coming out of this new wave, it is certainly rare to find consistent originality. Most artists seem to be trend hopping and following whatever they think will get them popularity instead of doing the groundwork and establishing themselves as a brand. Although the underground rap scene is infested with clones and trend seekers at this point, that doesn't mean that there aren't some gems just waiting for their moment. In particular, Trevor Spitta is one of my favorite finds from the last year. His creatively thought-out marketing, cinematic videos, and most importantly good music have quickly turned me into a fan. He is a much-needed breath of fresh air in the industry right now.

He sits at around 250k monthly listeners on Spotify and has amassed over 20 million streams as of August 8, 2025. He has been consistently working on music since around 2017 and his catalog includes 3 albums and over 30 singles, including "My Own World", "EZ" with Tommy Richman, and "FRONT DOOR". Most recently he and Justend released a collaborative single titled "FRIED" on August 1st, 2025, the same day that Trevor performed at the WHATMORE Chicken Shop Pop-Up Show in NYC. As he builds on his universe and continues to collaborate with a variety of artists, I am eager to see what's next.

Mr. Spitta and More

"SUNSET MOSHPIT " isn’t just an album; it’s the latest blockbuster in Trevor's cinematic catalog. Released on October 11, 2024, it fuses jet-lagged lo-fi, crunchy beats that have an addicting bass presence, and hooks that swing between dreamy and chaotic. The intro track "KIDS CAN FLY" is a blend of chill and upbeat; a perfect preview for what the next 35 minutes are about to bring you. "MR. SPITTA" is my personal favorite from this project. It starts off with one of the most infectious beats of last year. Smooth. Bouncy. Bass Heavy. Bombastic lyrics with a really fun flow and then around a minute in, the Sunset Moshpit breaks out... 10/10. (Bonus points for the line "I'm not Charles" cause it's always stuck in my head lol). Other tracks “COULDA BEEN PRESIDENT ", GIRL IS MINE ", and "ME 'N U " are also standouts with their head-bopping instrumentals and Trevor's triangle offense of unique flow + texturizing background vocal + catchy adlib combo. He's Phil Jackson. The others Jordan, Pippen and Rodman; respectively.

Since "SUNSET MOSHPIT", his personal discography has grown with the previously mentioned release of "FRIED"  with Justend on August 1st, 2025, a double single "SAVE THE BEES / DENVER" on April 22nd, 2025, "I'LL BE OKAY" on March 28, 2025, "85" with LIFEOFTHOM on January 23, 2025, and "Rio" with justicexavier on November 8, 2024.

He has also recently been featured on a variety of projects including COYOTE by Tommy Richman ("Tennessee"), BOOKMARK 2 by mynameisntjmack ("nonsense"), DOES IT FEEL REAL? by Lu ("Treadmill"), food for thought vol. 2 by justicexavier ("SINCE '09"), Sweet Nothings Vol. 2 by GIOVANNA and Austin Marc ("butter pecan v2"), and LINE LEADERS by Oblé Reed ("TOTEM CYPHER PT.2"). Each feature is sonically different, yet still reminiscent of Trevor. I think the variety of tracks that he is able to make space for himself on is very impressive. He goes back and forth between being the rhythmic anchor of a song and sometimes being the standout in your face verse. He has yet to miss.

Jazz in the West Village

Spitta’s DNA was cinematic before he even started his journey. His early taste was shaped by his mom and grandmother. Both from the Philippines, his mom was a singer, and his grandmother was a jazz musician. They were pivotal in his upbringing, especially musically as he was exposed to a complex yet beautiful musical atmosphere at a young age. He often found himself in jazz clubs in the West End before the age of 10, watching and listening to his grandmother perform at various gigs. He also grew up on lyricists like PRO ERA and Mac Miller; but the cloud-era flex of Lil Yachty and Thugger seems to have shaped him equally as seen in some of his lyric/flow choices. This is the music of someone who inherited rhythm and ambition. (Shoutout Nuance Magazine for the amazing interview)

The Spitta Show

Every song, feature, and video from Trevor feels like an episode in an ongoing series; some are comedy, some drama, some full-on action sequences; but all undeniably his. The consistency is wild when you realize how different each track is sonically. It’s like if Adult Swim gave him a multi-season run and just let him experiment with every genre and mood while still keeping that signature Trevor feel. You can hop from any of his tracks to the next and it all feels connected yet refreshingly different. Even his features feel like guest appearances in the Trevor Spitta show; he doesn’t just hop on a track; he bends the scene to fit his role. Some verses feel like he’s the cool narrator looking directly into the camera, others like he’s the chaotic side character who steals the scene. He’s figured out how to make every drop feel like an event without losing that looseness and fun that makes underground music magnetic in the first place.

Absolute Cinema

He has released music videos for 2 of his latest singles DENVER and I'LL BE OKAY as well 10 videos from SUNSET MOSHPIT including: IN MY WHIP, BREAK A LIL SWEAT, FLYSEXUAL, WHERE U BEEN?, PENELOPE, KIDS CAN FLY, MR.SPITTA, GIRL IS MINE, COULDA BEEN PRESIDENT, and ME 'N U.

Each video takes a brand-new approach at storytelling and creating a unique mood for the given song. His most recent video release, DENVER is a mixture of intriguing scenes with friends including a chaotic spin on the Last Supper, a solo highlight putting the bars on full display at a carwash with a sudsy "2 - 0 - 1 - 5 Cruze" , and a funny spin on the viral Denver Nugget jeans meme where Trevor is fully fitted out in the classic attire from the original video, dancing in front of a donut shop. An all-around fun vibe that shows the more fun, satirical side of his music.

My favorites from the SUNSET MOSHPIT collection are definitely ME 'N U, COULDA BEEN PRESIDENT, and again... MR. SPITTA. Each has their own very unique style but the one thing that remains consistent is the presence of Trevor throughout. He does a great job of balancing cinematic shots with creative costume design and interesting storytelling regardless of the video.

In ME 'N U he captures LA with late-night choppy VHS vibe b-roll and scenes of him rapping in the backseat of a moving BMW 325i to create a really interesting looking video. Various girls swap in and out of the passenger seat as he sings "It's Just Me 'N U" insinuating something other than the lyrics describe, completely changing the tone of the song. There are some really interesting angles and scenes as well as a few time lapse shots through traffic that look insane.

During COULDA BEEN PRESIDENT he explains just why he chose to be an artist instead of the president, an NBA player, an astronaut, and a dentist among other things. The visuals include a bunch of American flags (his outfit is literally all flags lol) a large crew of his friends as Secret Service, and himself posted up in the Oval Office. A very fun and creative video released around the time of the election last year.

Lastly my favorite, MR. SPITTA shows Trevor exploring many of his personas in what is easily the most captivating video of his. The editing style is PEAK. Sawyer Nix did their thing directing for real. Costume design 10/10. Shot selection 10/10. Color grading 10/10. Pacing 10/10. VFX 10/10. I'm not even gonna say too much more. If you've read this far and haven't watched this video yet, it's a must see.

Trevor Spitta on Tour

He had a mini tour for SUNSET MOSHPIT last October; visiting Baby's All Right in NYC, Schubas Tavern in Chicago, and El Cid in LA where the energy was reported to be chaotic yet intimate. He’s climbing stuff, bringing boxing dummies, and really getting the crowd into it. It’s not just an act at this point; he's turning his sets into a moment. A bunch of people have said that he sticks around, takes photos, and shares real conversations; like you’re not just attending a show, you’re entering his world. Seeing an artist with creativity, drive, and a real caring for their fans is awesome to see. We definitely need more like Mr. Spitta.

Claiming His Space and Crafting a Legacy

Trevor Spitta isn’t content with blending in; he’s intentionally staking his claim in the underground. Repping Oakland, New Jersey, he channels his roots into his sound and visuals, crafting an identity that’s as grounded as it is cinematic. He’s not in this to chase algorithms. In fact, what he wants from his fans goes deeper than just likes; the goal is to make them feel cooler, more confident, and a part of something unique. At the core, it’s about consistency, maintaining that fire he had as a kid messing in a bedroom studio, without losing sight of why he started; because he loves it, not because it’s trendy. That hunger, that authenticity, is what turns listeners into fans and tracks into cultural chapters. (If you ever find yourself in Oakland, NJ here is a guide for the top things to do in the area)

Conclusion

Trevor Spitta is building a world brick by brick, episode by episode. The music, the videos, the live shows; they all feel like they belong in the same universe, but never like a rerun. He’s proof that originality still matters and that you can stay true to your own style while experimenting with new sounds, new visuals, and new stories. Whether he’s the cool narrator, the chaotic scene-stealer, or the star of the whole production, Trevor makes every release feel like an event worth showing up for. If the underground rap scene is a crowded stage, Spitta isn’t just another artist; he’s the director, the writer, and the lead, and he’s nowhere near the final act. Be sure to check him out if you haven't already.
